Heliotrope is a genus of flowering plants in the borage family, Boraginaceae, which are native to Bolivia, Colombia and Peru. It is known for its dense clusters of bright purple flowers with an intense, vanilla-like fragrance.
The Heliotrope does best in a sunny, partly shaded spot on the patio or balcony. Water amply and do not let the plant dry out. The Heliotrope needs to be fertilized every two weeks with a standard fertilizer. Remove any dead flowers to promote blooming and cut back any long, new shoots to keep the plant compact. The Heliotrope is not winter hardy.
