Native to Mexico, Poinsettias were prized by the Aztecs long before becoming the iconic holiday plant we know today. Their colourful “flowers” are actually long-lasting bracts that surround tiny blooms.
Light: Bright, indirect sunlight is best. Avoid harsh direct sun.
Water: Water when the soil surface feels dry. Do not allow plants to sit in standing water. Fertilizer is not required while in bloom. If kept long-term, feed lightly with a balanced fertilizer in spring and summer.
Pruning: If keeping past the holidays, after blooming, prune back to encourage bushier growth.
Despite being a Christmas item, the Poinsettia is not winter hardy. It should be protected from cold drafts and temperatures below 12°C.
